Direct Debits such as SEPA (Europe), BACS (UK), BECS (Australia), and ACH (USA) are delayed payment methods.
This means that when a payment starts, it does not immediately succeed or fail as it would with a card payment. It needs time to be processed by the banking network.
Typical Processing Times
In general, you can expect a Direct Debit payment to reach your Stripe account within:
BACS: 2–4 working days
SEPA: 5–7 working days
BECS: 2–4 working days
ACH: 5–7 working days
What Does "Pending" Mean?
If the payment has been initiated but has not reached your Stripe account yet, its status in Stripe will appear as Pending.
This normally means the payment is still being processed.
How to Check the Expected Success Date
Open the payment in Stripe.
Check the column on the right side of the payment page.
Under Dates, look for Expected success date.
The Expected success date shows when the payment is expected to successfully reach your Stripe account.
Note
Direct Debit payments are processed from Monday to Friday.
Weekends and non-working days are therefore not included in the processing times above.
