How long does it take for my payments to settle?

Learn how long Stripe payments take to settle and become available for payout.

Updated over a week ago

This guide explains how long it takes for payments to settle in your Stripe account and when you can expect to receive your payouts, specifically if you're operating in Europe or the UK.

How Long Do Payments Take to Settle in Stripe?

Stripe supports multiple payment methods in Europe and the UK, each with different processing times:

Card Payments

  • Settlement time: 1–2 business days after the payment is captured.

  • Currencies supported: EUR, GBP and others.

  • Notes: This is the fastest and most commonly used method. High-volume or low-risk accounts may experience slightly faster fund availability.

SEPA Direct Debit

  • Settlement time: 5 business days.

  • Currency supported: EUR.

  • Notes: Commonly used for recurring billing in euros. Funds are only released once the payment is confirmed as successful.

BACS Direct Debit

  • Settlement time: 3 business days.

  • Currency supported: GBP.

  • Notes: Used in the UK for recurring billing and invoices. BACS has a predictable processing cycle.

When Do I Receive Payouts to My Bank Account?

Once funds settle into your Stripe balance, they are sent to your linked bank account based on your payout schedule.

Initial Payout (New Accounts)

  • First payout delay: 7 to 14 days.

  • Why? Stripe imposes this initial hold to assess risk and verify account activity.

  • This is a one-time delay and does not apply to future payouts.

Standard Payout Schedule (After First Payout)

  • T+3 schedule (transaction date plus 3 business days): Most European and UK accounts are on a "three business day" payout schedule.

    • Example: A card payment made on Monday settles on Tuesday or Wednesday, and is paid out by Friday.

  • Payout frequency options:

    • Daily

    • Weekly

    • Monthly

    • Manual (you choose when to transfer funds)

Bank Processing Time

  • Once Stripe initiates a payout, most banks process it within 1–2 business days.

  • Delays may occur around weekends and holidays.

Does Stripe Speed Up My Payouts After €1,000?

Many users report that Stripe shortens payout delays once they’ve processed a certain volume, often around €1,000, but:

  • There is no fixed public threshold.

  • Stripe uses a risk-based system that monitors your account's activity, chargeback rates, and payment history.

  • If your account is deemed low-risk, your payout timing may be automatically accelerated.

  • You can check or update your payout schedule anytime in your Payout Settings.

Instant Payouts (UK Only)

  • Available to eligible Stripe users in the UK.

  • Funds can be transferred to a linked debit card within minutes, even on weekends.

  • Fee: ~1% per payout (check exact fee in your Stripe account).
