Understand your Monthly Payout

Learn how to review and understand your monthly payout in Stripe.

Updated over a week ago

This guide explains how Stripe payouts work, how to read your monthly earnings, and how fees are deducted - including base and additional fees. We'll walk you through how to check this directly in your Stripe dashboard and interpret the numbers using a real example.

Step-by-Step: Where to Find the Monthly Report

  1. Log in to your Stripe account.

  2. Go to the Reports section in the left-hand menu.

  3. Click on Balance Summary.

You’ll now see a detailed overview of your account’s financial activity — including how much you collected, what fees were deducted, and what the final amount transferred to your bank account was.

Understanding the Breakdown

Let’s take a look at an example from the Balance Summary report:

This section, called "Balance change from activity", gives you the full breakdown:

Fees Explained

  • Standard Fees (Deducted per transaction):

Each payment is subject to two types of standard fees:

    • MAAT platform fee: 1%

    • Stripe processing fee: 1.5% + €0.25 per transaction (can vary depending on method of payment used by the students to pay their gym memberships)

For 45 transactions totaling €2,475.00, Stripe and MAAT together deducted €73.25.

This covers the service usage and payment processing.

  • Additional Stripe Fees:

Sometimes, additional fees appear, these come from extra services Stripe offers, such as:

    • Retrying failed payments

    • Currency conversions (if applicable)

    • Anti-Fraud detection

In this example, Stripe applied €16.97 in such additional service fees across 8 instances.

  • Final Amount Paid Out:

After subtracting all fees, Stripe transfers the net balance to your bank account. In this example:

    • Collected: €2,475.00

    • Total Fees: €73.25 (standard) + €16.97 (additional) = €90.22

    • Final Payout: €2,384.78

You can track this under Reports → Balance Summary every month to monitor your payouts.

Note on Discrepancies Between MAAT and Stripe:

It’s possible that the number of active students shown in Stripe is lower than what you see on MAAT. This is perfectly normal, and can happen due to two common reasons:

  1. Cash Payments: If you have marked a student as paid in cash on MAAT, they will appear as active on MAAT, but not on Stripe — since no online transaction was recorded.

  2. Bank Transfers (SEPA/BACS): When students pay via bank transfer, they may already appear as active on MAAT (once you manually confirm payment), but will not show up on Stripe until the money is actually received. This can take a couple of days.

So, Stripe only reflects online payments collected, while MAAT reflects the full picture of payment status, including manual and offline transactions.
