Free Trials: Trial Classes & Trial Days

Learn how trial classes and trial days work in MAAT.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

MAAT offers two different ways to let new students try your academy before committing to a full membership:

  1. Free Trial Classes (no payment details required)

  2. Free Trial Days (attached to a membership plan with delayed first charge)

Below you’ll find a clear explanation of how each option works.

Option 1: Free Trial Classes (No Membership Required)

What It Is

Free trial classes allow new signups to book a set number of classes without purchasing a membership or entering payment details.

This is a frictionless way to let potential students try your academy before committing financially.

With this setup:

  • Students can sign up and book classes

  • No payment details are required upfront

  • They can attend the number of trial classes you allow

  • After that, they must purchase a membership to continue booking

In the attendees list, trial students will appear with a label next to their name that says “Free trial”, making them easy to identify.

How to Set It Up

There is no setup required on your side inside the app.

To activate free trial classes, simply contact the MAAT team and let us know:

  • The number of free classes you would like new students to be able to book before needing to pay

That’s it, we’ll configure everything for you.

Option 2: Free Trial Days (Attached to a Membership)

What It Is

Free trial days allow you to offer a specific number of free days before the first payment is charged on a membership plan.

The student still selects a membership and enters their payment details — but they are only charged after the trial period ends.

This means:

  • Payment details are collected upfront

  • The membership activates immediately in trial mode

  • The first charge is automatically processed once the trial period finishes

How It Works

1) Set up the Free Trial Days

When creating or editing a membership plan:

  • Add the number of free trial days

  • These days begin counting from the moment the student adds their payment details

Example:

If you set 7 trial days, the first charge will happen only after those 7 days are completed.

2) Student Sign-Up Process

  • The student selects the membership plan

  • They enter their payment details

  • They click “Pay”

  • No payment is processed immediately

  • The membership activates in trial mode

3) During the Trial Period

  • The student can attend classes normally

  • On the Members Page, their status appears as “Trialing”

4) Canceling During the Trial

If the student decides not to continue:

  • They must contact the admin

  • If the admin cancels the membership before the trial ends, no payment will be taken
